Guided by his over 35 years of public service,
Paul Workman founded Workman Consulting & Training Group, LLC in
2022.
Paul began his public service in 1991 by
joining the United States Army immediately after graduating high school at the
age of 17. Originally enlisted as Infantryman, Paul would serve in the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division (“Screaming Eagles”) and
the 2nd Infantry Division (“Indianhead”). After completing his
four-year active-duty enlistment in 1995, Paul transferred into the
United States Army Reserve (USAR) as a Military Police Officer.
Paul rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and
was mutually respected by his peers, his subordinates, and his command.
Due to his leadership style. Paul was chosen for selection into the Sergeant
Audie Murphy Club for Leadership Excellence and ultimately received a direct commission to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Paul would later be
chosen above his peers to serve as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander of
the 783rd Military Police Battalion.
After over 20 years of military service, and being
deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Paul retired
from the military at the rank of Captain.
Due to his service and leadership, Paul was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal prior to his
retirement.
In 1997, Paul began his law enforcement career
with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, while simultaneously serving in
the USAR. Paul was hired as a Deputy and was immediately assigned to the
Corrections Division, serving in the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac,
Michigan. Paul attended the Oakland Police Academy in 2002 shifting his attention from corrections to road patrol. Paul’s law enforcement career mirrored the success he saw in
the military. Paul rose through the ranks ultimately being promoted to the rank
of Lieutenant.
After 25 years, Paul currently still serves at
the Oakland County Sheriff's Office as a Lieutenant assigned to the Emergency
Response and Preparedness Division. In part, his duties include
overseeing all Sheriff’s Office training programs (to include defensive tactics
and firearms), the Aviation Unit, the Drone’s as a First Responder Program, and
the Crisis Response Unit.
Paul currently reviews all Response to
Resistance (Use of Force) reports and is an Advance Specialist in the
Behavioral Analysis of Force Encounters. He has received multiple
certifications in understanding human factors as they pertain to use of force
incidents and has a genuine desire to use that expertise to help people
understand the complexity of these events. In that vein, Paul established
a grant funded Community Policing and Educational Series with the intent to
build trust and understanding between law enforcement and the communities they
serve. For his efforts and leadership, Paul was chosen as the Command Officer of the Year for the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
Paul has a wonderful wife named Holly who runs her own private practice counseling firm (Action Works Counseling) in Clarkston. Paul and Holly met in high school and they have been married for over 20 years. They have two daughters, Hannah who studies Biology and plays softball at Fairmont State University, and Paige who is currently enrolled at Central Michigan University studying History.
