Understanding Force Encounters:
Human Performance in Dynamic Environments
“The
greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.”
-
DANIEL BOORSTIN
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This
course uses behavioral science of human performance to better comprehend the
often-misunderstood reactions to dynamic environments and high-risk encounters.
Over the course of 16 hours, attendees will be expected to participate in
in-depth conversations about the often-dysfunctional relationship between human
factors and the criminal justice system. We will discuss some of the
high-profile cases where force has been used and then analyze officer response
after discussing human performance in critical incidents.
The goal of this course is to improve human performance during critical incidents and enhance future investigations. The training increases the attendee’s understanding of how human factors often challenge and contradict the officer’s ability to accurately analyze and then address dangerous situations. This course also raises awareness of human performance factors commonly applied to other professional disciplines that impact the successful application of force and de-escalation techniques.
